Bloody Fresh Mary

I am always on a quest to find the perfect Bloody Mary. I make so many different types of bloodies. I’m always switchin’ em’ up to go with my menu. Bloody Mary’s can often be made…a little too spicy. If you have a sensitive tummy…you might normally shy away from this acidic beverage. I’ve created this lively, fresh version to go with any meal. The fresh additions offset the acidity of the tomato. If you’re like me, you can usually drink just one bloody….then move on to something else. With this version, you will want another. They are light, crisp and stimulate your appetite.

Bloody Fresh Mary
In a cocktail shaker:

  • Crushed Ice
  • 1 ½ Oz of Vodka
  • 8 Oz Tomato Juice – a premium brand – Or juice your own to heighten the freshness
  • Dash of Worcestershire Sauce
  • Splash of olive juice (from your pimento stuffed green olive jar in the fridge)
  • Dash of Pepper Sauce- whatever brand you like
  • Squeeze of Lime Juice
  • Diced Cucumber- one thick round chopped up
  • 1 small garlic clove – peeled
  • 1 chunk red onion- just cut off a piece and chop it up
  • 1 sprig fresh Rosemary
  • 1 spring fresh basil
  • 1 spring fresh parsley

Cucumber Wedge, fresh Parsley and Rosemary spring for garnish

Cover your cocktail shaker and shake vigorously to help muddle the fresh veggies and herbs in the mixture. Shake it quite a bit and let it sit in your freezer for a few minutes while you prepare your glass:

In a tall sturdy glass – rim your glass with a fresh lime and dip in flavored salt – I used Rosemary Salt in this case, but you can use any flavored salt you like. Lemon Salt, Celery Salt…there are no rules.

After you rim your glass…stick it in the freezer to get icy cold. As always, I recommend your liquid ingredients be very cold prior to mixing. It truly improves the quality of the drink.

Once your glass is icy cold…pull the cocktail shaker out of the freezer and give one last shake. Add crushed ice in the bottom of your chilled glass and strain the drink through your shaker.

For a brunch – make a big batch by replicating the formula in this recipe. Mix in a large glass pitcher and keep very cold.

For Virgin Version -
Simply eliminate the Vodka

To Make it Special -
Garnish with a cucumber wheel and fresh parsley and rosemary.
